(Screenshot: X/ANI_News)Late on Saturday, a fire broke out at a ground-plus-five storey building near Fort’s Flora fountain. No injuries were reported in the blaze, which was controlled nearly five hours later.
The incident was reported at 10.05 pm on Saturday at Rustom building, situated along the Veer Nariman Road and near the iconic Flora Fountain in Fort. The fire was declared level-one at 10.21 pm.
According to preliminary reports from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire broke out and remained confined at the mezzanine level of a Bata showroom. “Fire is confined to electric wiring, installation, cardboard papers, boxes, footwear and other items on the mezzanine floor inside the showroom,” said an official. In a bid to douse the flames, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) pressed two fire engines, three jumbo tankers among other firefighting equipment on site.
The fire was extinguished by 2.31 am, after more than four hours of fire fighting. The operation was conducted after the electric power supply was suspended by the BEST personnel. Besides the MFB and BEST officials, civic ward staffers and police personnel were also pressed on the site to aid in the safe operations. Officials maintained that no injuries were reported in the minor blaze.
