Fire in building near Flora fountain in Fort, no injuries reported

Late on Saturday, a fire broke out at a ground-plus-five storey building near Fort’s Flora fountain. No injuries were reported in the blaze, which was controlled nearly five hours later.

The incident was reported at 10.05 pm on Saturday at Rustom building, situated along the Veer Nariman Road and near the iconic Flora Fountain in Fort. The fire was declared level-one at 10.21 pm.

According to preliminary reports from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire broke out and remained confined at the mezzanine level of a Bata showroom. “Fire is confined to electric wiring, installation, cardboard papers, boxes, footwear and other items on the mezzanine floor inside the showroom,” said an official. In a bid to douse the flames, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) pressed two fire engines, three jumbo tankers among other firefighting equipment on site.
