The Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society filed an affidavit in the Bombay High Court on Tuesday stating that the former Chief of Army staff,General V K Singh had raked up the Adarsh scam to get back at his predecessor General Deepak Kapoor.

The society’s affidavit opposing the intervention of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) was filed in a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by activist Pravin Wategaonkar seeking the invocation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in the case.

The affidavit filed by retired Lieutenant Commander Gurmukh Singh Grewal, the Adarsh Society’s representative states,“…the alleged Adarsh scam is infact a plot initiated by the then Chief of Army Staff,General V K Singh who took over as chief on April 1,2010 from his predecessor General Deepak Kapoor. I state that the plot was doctored by General V K Singh in order to settle his scores with his predecessor and also to tarnish and/or defame Adarsh Society and its members.”

Grewal’s affidavit claims that Singh had deputed an officer from the headquarters in Delhi to conduct a confidential inquiry into the Adarsh Society scam.

However, the confidential inquiry report submitted to the headquarters in Delhi also stated that the land on which the controversial highrise stands belongs to the state government,Grewal claimed.

The MoD’s claim on the land despite the report “is nothing but hoodwinking…” Grewal’s affidavit states. He has further stated, the MoD “is itself not sure of its title to the land on which Adarsh Society building stands today and hence is in the process of initiating a suit against the government of Maharashtra.”
