Says Sena is dragging him into controversy with political motive A day after the Shiv Sena tried to corner Industries Minister Narayan Rane over his name cropping up in the Adarsh Housing Society scam hearing by the Judicial Commission,Rane said he had not taken any decision regarding the society during his tenure as chief minister from February to October 1999. He alleged the Sena was trying to link his name to the issue with political motive. On Tuesday,Shiv Sena group leader in the Assembly Subhash Desai had pointed to news reports that Rane had sought an immediate report into the details of the land when he was the chief minister in the Sena-BJP regime. Speaking in the Assembly on Wednesday,Rane said Desai had tried to link his name with political motive. He also called this a pathetic attempt at indulging in character assassination. He pointed to the deposition of a deputy secretary from the Revenue Department before the Commission in which he had said that during Ranes tenure as chief minister in 1999,he had marked an application seeking an immediate report regarding the grant of land for the society. Rane claimed the official had told the Commission that no further action was taken on the remarks. Rane said according to the Manual of Office Procedure, an application by a private individual or institution to the government had to be marked with instructions and sent to the department concerned within seven days. Accordingly,he had marked the application regarding the Adarsh Society and sent it to the Revenue Department,Rane added.
