With the two kids rescued on Monday, the total number of children rescued has reached four. (File Photo)A day after the the Mumbai police crime branch busted an interstate child selling racket, police Monday arrested three more persons in connection with the case.
The crime branch also rescued two more children who had been sold off as part of the racket. With the arrests of the three agents, the total number of arrests in the case has gone upto 10, which includes a doctor.
With the two kids rescued on Monday, the total number of children rescued has reached four.
DCP (Enforcement) Ragasudha R said, “We have arrested three more agents and rescued two children. Among those rescued are an eight-month-old girl who was sold in September 2023 and a two-year-old boy who was sold in September 2022. While the girl was sold for Rs 1.6 lakh, the boy was sold for Rs 1.90 lakh.”
The police had earlier said that they suspect a total of 14 children had been purchased and sold by agents in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
In majority of these cases, the children who were sold came from poor families and those purchasing them were well off couples who did not have children.
The agents charged anywhere between Rs 80,000 to Rs 4 lakh for selling the children, police had said.
