Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) minister Eknath Khadse was granted regular bail by a special court on Thursday in connection with a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) linked to alleged irregularities in a land deal in Pune. Khadse was not arrested in the case and was earlier granted interim bail.
Special Judge RN Rokade ordered that Khadse be granted bail on executing a bond of Rs 2 lakh. Among the conditions imposed by the court are that he shall provide his mobile number and correct address of residence and not leave India without the court’s permission. The court also expedited the trial and directed him to attend the dates of the court.
The ED is probing allegations of money-laundering against Khadse, a former revenue minister with the BJP and others related to the land at Bhosari in Pune. The ED has alleged that a loss of Rs 61.25 crore was caused to the public exchequer after a fraudulent sale deed was executed in favour of Khadse’s wife Mandakini and his son-in-law Girish Chaudhri. The ED claims that Chaudhri entered a sale deed to acquire the land that belonged to the MIDC to avail compensation nearly three times the actual value of the land.
Khadse in his bail plea filed through lawyer Mohan Tekavde said that he was nowhere concerned with the purchase of the land nor had he or any of his family members applied for any compensation from MIDC. Khadse also said that he had cooperated with the probe and custodial interrogation was not required.
