As legislators demanded free passes to the World Cup final on Tuesday, deputy chairperson of the council,Vasant Davkhare, directed the government to ensure a complimentary pass for each member. The state legislature will not hold proceedings on Saturday when the World Cup final is played at the Wankhede Stadium.

As reported earlier,of the 31,000 seats in Wankhede, only 4,000 are available for general public. The remaining 27,000 tickets are largely for the ICC’s tournament partners and sponsors, clubs and others.

Congress MLC Subhash Chavan questioned why legislators were being denied passes for the finals. Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs Padmakar Valvi said the government had received 250 passes each for the two league matches held at Wankhede. Valvi said the Sports and Revenue Department had sent their request for passes to the match organisers who have told the government that a decision on tickets and complimentary passes will be taken soon.

BJP’s Legislative Council Member Vinod Tawde said all legislators may not be able to get passes on their own. “I am going to watch the match in Mohali. If India reaches the final,I will go to Wankhede or else I will give the ticket it to someone in my constituency,” said Tawde.

Meanwhile, over a month after Mayor Shraddha Jadhav demanded free tickets,Mumbai Cricket Association officials said the tickets had been provided, though not as many as she had demanded. According to an MCA official, the Mayor, municipal commissioner and the BMC fire department have got six tickets each.
