(Express Photo) One person has been booked on Monday for allegedly raping a police constable posted with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Mumbai and duping her of Rs 46 lakh after posing as an official from the Intelligence department.
The accused has been identified as Gaurav Awale, 31, a resident of Miraz, Sangali.
According to the complaint filed by the NIA constable, Awale met her in 2019 when he introduced himself as an officer from the Intelligence department of the Central government and developed close friendship with her.
“The accused under the pretext of marrying the constable, allegedly raped her at various instances between July 2019 and February 2020,” said a police source.
Later, Awale took money from the complainant police woman under the pretext of investing money in various schemes. Awale also made her take a loan from the police’s credit society and also allegedly borrowed money in her name from some friends and relatives, the complaint read.

When the woman found that the accused had no intention of marrying her, she started demanding her money be returned. The accused kept on ignoring her. Finally, when the complainant pressured him, he refused to return money to her and threatened to kill her if she kept on forcing him to repay, an officer said.
Following this, the constable filed a complaint with the police station concerned a few weeks ago. The police have conducted a preliminary inquiry and zonal DCP reviewed it and then recently ordered an FIR be registered in the matter.
