The Wadala TT police have arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly raping his minor sister repeatedly for the past two years. The police said the accused and his three siblings – a brother and two sisters – were residents of Sangam Nagar, Wadala, and the accused was the sole breadwinner of the family, while the other three were studying. Their mother left them five years ago, while their father tended to the family’s farms in their native place, the police added.
“On March 14, the CWC conducted an awareness programme against sexual abuse at the 15-year-old victim’s school, encouraging students to report any such incident immediately to their elders. The next day, the victim approached her teacher and told her that the accused had been raping her ever since she turned 13, at their residence when their siblings were away. The teacher then took her to the CWC, who alerted us about the case,” said Senior Police Inspector Suhas Garud, Wadala TT police station. The police then recorded a statement of the victim, and the accused was charged for rape under the Indian Penal Code, as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He will be produced in court on Wednesday.
13-year-old girl ‘raped’ for four months
MUMBAI: The RAK Marg police have arrested two persons for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Parel repeatedly over the last four months. According to the police, the accused have been identified as Sunil Singh (36) and Bhullar Khan (30). While Singh is a cleaner employed in a public toilet, Khan works as a delivery boy for a general store. They are both residents of the Edenwala Compound in Patel, where the victim also stays with her family. “In December last year, he had cornered the girl when she had come to use the toilet and raped her. Khan later got to know about the rape and used it to blackmail her. Both Singh and Khan raped the victim several times after this,” said Police Inspector Gitendra Bhavsar.
The incident came to light on Monday when one of the victim’s neighbours noticed Singh loitering outside the toilet when the victim had gone in to use it. When the victim emerged looking frightened, the neighbour approached her and asked her if everything was fine, after which the victim confided in her. The neighbour then brought the matter to the attention of the victim’s mother, who approached the RAK Marg police.
“We registered a complaint in the matter and arrested both Singh and Khan from their residences. They have been charged for rape under the Indian Penal Code as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” Bhavsar added. The police are now probing how Khan came to know that Singh had raped the victim. Investigations indicate that the duo knew each other but were not friends, and that they never targeted the victim together. ens
