Man held for raping, trying to extort money from ex-colleague

According to the police, the woman in her complaint to the police stated that on March 7, the accused man took the woman by force on his vehicle to Hotel Lavender in Sakinaka, where he allegedly forced himself on her.

Sakinaka police arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly raping a 31-year-old former office colleague of his and trying to extort money from her. When his attempt to extort money failed, he allegedly assaulted the woman.

The complainant, a married woman, is an Andheri East resident, while the accused man is from Jogeshwari (East). Both worked in a private company in Sakinaka for five months and knew each other for some time. Two months ago the accused man joined another company.

According to the police, the woman in her complaint to the police stated that on March 7, the accused man took the woman by force on his vehicle to Hotel Lavender in Sakinaka, where he allegedly forced himself on her.

Later, in order to extort money from her, he tried to transfer Rs 50,000 from her via GPay. When she intentionally gave him the wrong PIN for Gpay, he got infuriated and assaulted her. He even intimidated her with dire consequences, the police complaint stated.

A day later, on Sunday (March 9) the woman approached the police and filed a complaint against the accused man.

Police immediately acted on the complaint and arrested the accused early Sunday morning. He was charged with sections 64(1)(rape), 308 (extortion), 115(2)(voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2)(criminal intimidation) of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

“The accused was produced before a court on Sunday and remanded in police custody up to March 11. We are in the process of verifying the allegations levelled against the accused man by his ex-colleague. We shall also record the statement of their common friends, ex-colleagues and people from their previous work place office,” said a sub-inspector from Sakinaka police station.
