With over 9,000 files reported missing from various offices of BMC,particularly the civic building proposals (BP) and Development Plan (DP) departments, the civic body has formed an in-house committee to recreate the files.
In the past 20 days, since the file reconstruction work began,230 files pertaining to various buildings (including blueprints) have been restored,BMC claims.
We have been able to recreate many files with the help of copies that were sent to the water and fire departments for occupation certificates (OCs). We have requested architects to share documents of earlier projects, said R S Kuknur, chief engineer of the BP and DP departments,at the corporations standing committee meeting Wednesday.
We are in the process of tracing the exact year of the files and from which ward and department they belongs to. We should present this information in about one week, said additional municipal commissioner Mohan Adtani.
However,no action has been planned against officers who could be found responsible for misplacing the files.
Committee member and Samajwadi Party leader,Rais Shaikh demanded a probe to track down every responsible official.
BJP corporator leader Dilip Patel demanded stricter action. The missing building files present a larger danger. This is a case of organised crime proving the builders nexus with the corporation. Shaikh alleged.
In addition to a probe, standing committee members have appealed for narco-analysis tests on suspected officers.
Files of important buildings, including the Taj Palace hotel, have gone missing since before the terror attacks – clearly this investigation will have to include a CID probe as it is a matter of security, said standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale.
