Over 80 MSc IT students of Mumbai University, who appeared for the Java Technology (Part-2) Sem-IV paper at Kirti Doongursee College on Friday, have complained to the university’s students’ grievance cell that they were given the wrong question paper. University officials have assured the students that they would investigate the matter and a decision would be taken only after the Board of Examination (BoE) meets to discuss the issue. The students have demanded a re-examination. According to the written complaint submitted by students of D G Ruparel, Kirti, SIES, SWS, Vidyalankar, Ruia and Siddharth College, they were given a question paper of Java Technology, but the content of the paper was different. The letter further points out that the code of the question paper given to them too was different from the one their fellow students at other centres had received. “There were two exams of the same subject going on simultaneously. The first was of MSc IT and the other was of MSc CS. Both the courses have similar subjects and, on Friday, students from both the courses were appearing for the Java Technology paper. The difference between the two papers is that while the Java Technology paper for MSc IT students is simpler, the one for MSc CS students is in-depth and more difficult. The students appeared for the paper, but after the exams when they compared it with other students, they realised the goof-up,” said a senior university official. Leeladhar Bansod, a member of the SGC said the complaint was accepted and had been forwarded to the Controller of Examination (CoE). Despite repeated attempts, V N Magre, principal of Kirti College, was unavailable for comments. mumbai.newsline@expressindia.com
