Mumbai: Torres’s Gamdevi store sealed by EOW found broke-open, FIR filed

One of the four Mumbai stores of alleged fraud jewellery brand Torres, which was sealed by Mumbai Police after a Ponzi scam worth at least Rs 130 crore of the company surfaced early this year, was found broke-open in south Mumbai on Friday.

An FIR has been registered by the Gamdevi police in this connection against an unknown person who gained illegal entry at the property which was sealed by the Mumbai police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW), which is currently investigating the Ponzi scheme wherein nearly 13,000 investors have been duped.

On Friday, the police learned about the alleged housebreaking at the Torres showroom in Dharam Palace building on N S Patkar Marg, Gamdevi. After this, EOW officials also reached the spot and found that the shop’s shutter was forcefully pulled upward, and half opened.

EOW officers inspected the shop and found that nothing was missing from the shop. Last on March 7 EOW officials had visited the store and on Friday they found all articles were at the same place where they were on March 7, EOW officials stated in the police complaint.

On behalf of EOW, ASI Shridhar Bhoite filed an FIR with the Gamdevi police against an unidentified person under relevant sections of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita for theft and trespass passing.

According to the Gamdevi police, a laundry store and two other stores were also similarly found broke-open for theft purpose on Friday night.
