The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) that is aimed to enhance commuter safety and infrastructure under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) has taken up trespass control measures across key railway sections in Mumbai. It has identified 34 key locations where the Central and Western Railway authorities are in the process of constructing boundary walls. The project is expected to be completed by March 2025, with more than 90 per cent of the work almost over.
Completed Projects – 13 new structures, comprising foot over bridges (FOBs), linkways, subways and home platforms. They include 10 under MUTP III’s Trespass Control Project, and three under deposit works of Zonal Railways. Besides, an additional four FOBs are under construction under MUTP III.
Integration: New FOBs seamlessly connect with existing railway infrastructure, improving safety and commuter convenience.
Western Railway: Completed 10.75 km of boundary walls.
Central Railway: Completed 32.914 km of boundary walls.
The new FOBs are designed to reduce trespassing and minimise accident risks. Improved pathways enhance the daily commute for millions of passengers.
Deadline and Project Completion: March 2025.
Current status: 92% completed, work on 4 FOBs under way. Total 30 new FOBs, extensions, linkway, a subway, and a home platform completed.
Sanctioned Cost: Rs 551 crore
