The Gadchiroli police have arrested Hem Mishra, described as a “prominent Naxal courier” from Uttarakhand, along with two others for links with ultras.

The three were arrested at Aheri Thursday night, sources said. It wasn’t immediately clear as to what they were doing in Gadchiroli.

Meanwhile, some activists are on a “fact-finding” mission to Gadchiroli and look into the incidents for possible human rights violations by police, particularly the one at Mendhar last month when six women naxals were killed in an encounter. There were reports in a section of the media that the police had killed the naxals despite the fact that they were trying to surrender.

A probe by local sub-divisional magistrate Chandrabhan Parate, however, had drawn a blank with the villagers, who had reportedly claimed to the media that naxals were killed despite surrender bid, refusing to go on record before Parate.
