The Air traffic Controllers (ATC) Guild has advocated a common software platform for sharing real-time information among airlines, airports and the air traffic management to improve efficiency in airports.
The platform,a social networking tool combined with business intelligence, would inform everyone including people who come to pick up relatives at the airport about the status of each flight, said A B Joshi, the Deputy General Manager (ATM),Airports Authority of India and representative of the ATC Guild.
Joshi said this platform had reduced flight delays and saved time and money for airlines abroad. It also reduced impact on environment by saving fuel.
With current investments in airports touching over Rs 20,000 crore and an exponential increase in air traffic predicted in near future,Joshi said it had to be adopted soon in India.
As the representative of the ATC guild,it is my appeal to all players to voluntarily participate. This concept needs all partners to share information and we need it now, said Joshi.
He was speaking at Aerodrome India, the 4th International Exhibition and Business Forum on Airport Infrastructure,Operations,Security and Connectivity.
In Europe,at 18 Airports under Euro Control, this system of collaboration was already in place. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the US has also adapted the system for airports,Joshi said.
According to data with FAA,this resulted in saving of fuel and time for airlines worth 8 billion dollars with an investment of 5 million dollars, Joshi said.
Joshi also said that the Mumbai and Delhi airports recently adopted a process of collaboration between pilots, air traffic controllers and airports, which contributed partly to reducing delays.
