The Mumbai police on Wednesday confirmed that they have sent notices to film director Rohit Jugraj and businessman Kartik Jobanputra— friends of model Viveka Babajee— asking them to report for questioning in the model’s suicide case.

Senior Inspector Mangesh Pote of the Khar police station said,“We sent them notices on Wednesday afternoon and would question them. They both knew Viveka at different points of time and we want to talk to them to gather if they know anything about the reasons behind her suicide.”

According to police,Viveka and Jobanputra were in a relationship till mid-2009. Kartik and Viveka had floated an event management company that was doing well till differences cropped up between them.

“Viveka and Jobanputra parted ways professionally in December 2009,” said a police officer. Jugraj is supposed to be a close friend of the family. Both Jobanputra and Jugraj were unavailable for comment despite several attempts.

Viveka’s family has still not been questioned by police. “Mother and sisters of Viveka have gone to Nasik for the funeral rites and we are waiting for them to come back so that their statements can be recorded,” said Pote.

Police also said they have sent Viveka’s laptop and mobile phone to Kalina lab for analysis as they want to go through the contents of the two items. “We want to go through the text messages received and sent by Viveka over the past one month to gather more information about the case. The mails sent and received by the laptop would also be checked,” said the officer. He added that they had drawn a list of around 12-15 persons who knew Viveka who would be questioned in connection with the suicide. Viveka’s viscera has also been sent for chemical analysis.

Thirty seven-year-old Viveka ended her life last Friday evening by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in suburban Bandra.
