Paan vendor killed over Rs 50 in Cuffe Parade

A 55-year-old paan vendor was allegedly killed over Rs 50 in Cuffe Parade early on Thursday.

A 55-year-old paan vendor was allegedly killed over Rs 50 in Cuffe Parade early on Thursday.

According to the Cuffe Parade police,Shekhar Swami had opened his paan shop around 4.30 am on Thursday when a customer named Kailash approached the shop and sat down on a bench near it.

After a while,Kailash went up to Swami and asked for a paan. When Swami asked Kailash to pay Rs 50,Kailash said he did not have any money and that he will pay for it later.

Swami refused to give him the paan following which the two got into an argument. Kailash’s nephew,Guddu,his mother,sister and brothers Vicky and Dholu,who were nearby,came and beat up Swami. The police said Guddu picked up a tile and smashed it on Swami’s head.

Swami,who suffered severe head injuries,raised an alarm to alert the locals. They rushed Swami to St George Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. They also managed to nab Vicky and Dholu while the rest managed to escape.

The police have arrested Vicky and Dholu for murder and are on the lookout for the rest of the family.

“Investigations are on to find out who hit Swami with a tile,” said Police Inspector Vilas Bhole from the Cuffe Parade police station.
