Prosecution concludes arguments in Kasab’s case

The prosecution has concluded the arguments in the confirmation of the death sentence handed out to lone convicted terrorist Ajmal Kasab. The Bombay High Court which is hearing the confirmation proceedings has directed the defence lawyers to open their arguments from Thursday. Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam opened his arguments on October 18.

Defence lawyers Amin Solkar and Farhana Shah would begin arguments seeking Kasab’s acquittal. Nikam concluded his arguments after informing the court about the conspiracy hatched in Pakistan and India by Kasab,deceased terrorist and Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin Ahmed,along with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).

Shah who was present in court was informed by Justice Ranjana Desai that the defence team would not get only 22 days to wrap up their arguments. She also said that the hearing would be on a daily basis and no adjournments would be entertained.

Shah said,“We have prepared our arguments and I think we have a strong case.” Kasab is lodged at the Arthur Road Prison in his high security solitary cell.
