Bachelor of Mass Media students at Rizvi College are learning to run a television channel and will soon telecast lectures by noted professors and professionals to cable subscribers.
The channel, Campus 24, was launched about a month ago by Rizvi College. Mohammed Farooqui, principal of Rizvi College stated BMM students will receive training and experience in production.
“The students are being trained and will soon handle equipment in the studio. They are developing software for the channel,” he said.
The channel is airing sports tournaments and will soon air academic lectures starting with commerce subjects. “We started the process of making a list of professors for different subjects in commerce and will move on to other streams. The professors can either come to the college studio or take a lecture at the college or even be filmed at their respective colleges,” said Farooqui.
Farooqui added the objective was to allow students from other colleges to have access to lectures from a wide variety of lecturers.
To get the best professors for the 20-odd subjects in commerce, BMM students at Rizvi are conducting surveys among students of other colleges to find the best teacher from their college for every subject.
Farooqui added that the target is to record lectures pertaining to the curriculum of students from junior college to masters courses.
BMM students at Rizvi college have started volunteering to run programmes on Campus 24 channel.
Haidar Rizvi, a first-year BMM student, is involved in anchoring shows.
“It’s a great and exciting experience to be able to learn about such things in first year itself. Working with the channel boosts our confidence and gives us exposure to reach out to a wider audience,” he said. Currently, first year students are participating in programmes for the channel.
The channel will also air programmes with famous sports alumni from Rizvi college like Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma who will talk about cricket.
“We are working with Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the University of Mumbai to produce content students can benefit from. We have tied up with Incable and are in talks with other cable companies as well,” said Farooqui.
