Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Rajan Sali. Express file photo The wife and the son of Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Rajan Salvi has approached the Bombay High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a disproportionate assets case registered by the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Salvi is a three-time legislator representing Rajapur Assembly constituency from the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction of the Shiv Sena.
On Thursday, a single-judge bench of Justice Sarang V Kotwal posted the matter for further hearing to February 12 after Salvi family’s counsel sought adjournment so that advocate Sudeep Pasbola, who was not available to argue, can make his submissions on the said day.
After Justice Kotwal asked advocate Rahul Arote, who on February 5 filed the pre-arrest bail application for Salve’s wife Anuja and son Shubham, if he wanted to argue on ad-interim relief, Arote submitted that Pasbola, who is his senior, will make his submissions on Monday on the same.
The bench said that no ad-interim relief was granted “strictly at the instance” of advocate Arote seeking time to argue the case.
The FIR was registered for offences punishable under sections 12 (abetment of offences), 13 (1) (b) (criminal misconduct by public servant by intentionally enriching illicitly during the period of office) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The ACB officials alleged that Salvi and his family possessed assets worth Rs 3.5 crore more than his known sources of income. The agency claimed that the total assets of Salvi were 118 per cent more than his known sources of income.
The applicants claimed the frivolous case was registered against them with a political vendetta in view of ensuring elections and sought to be protected from arrest.
