You are a television veteran. But after turning film director with We Are Family, how is it juggling between the two media?
I’ve been directing and producing television shows for 12 years through my family-owned Cinevistaas Productions. So,TV,to me,isn’t a lot of work. By now,I am so well versed with the art and craft of creating shows that concept creation takes merely five minutes. It is writing a film that takes time.

So what is the concept of your upcoming show Tera Mujhse Hai Pehle Ka Naata Koi?
It’s a Sydney Sheldon kind of fast-paced thriller in the daily format with a strong female central character. The lead is an innocent girl with her ideas of the ideal and dream man. A man comes into her life but she doesn’t know how she is somehow connected to him and his family from before. The man wants to destroy her life, which is something the show establishes right from the beginning. Once she gets married, she begins to realise there is more to what meets the eye and she begins to wonder whether she is the person she thought she is.

Thrillers usually have a limited lifespan. And the Indian audience isn’t used to the genre either.
What the audience needs is a powerful story. Television shows usually run on a six-month contract, which is renewed on the basis of the show’s popularity. Even before the show has gone on air,I have chalked out the story’s direction for the next six months. I know how to keep it fast-paced. I don’t intend to stretch the show beyond that and compromise on quality for the sake of TRPs.

Do you not intend to expand your TV production business to films?
I’m currently busy with writing my next film for Karan Johar with whom I have a three-film deal. After that,I’ll consider producing films. As of now,Cinevistaas has three new shows coming up for Star and a reality show is in the planning stages.

Are you attempting a new genre in your next film?
Yes,this one’s an action comedy and Karan has already approved the story.
