Cops cant trace buyer who provided fake address to get mobile connection
A former nodal officer of a telecom company informed the special court that the SIM card used by the terrorists during the 26/11 attacks was issued from Delhi in 2008.
The witness,Sunil Tiwari, who was examined by the prosecution on Thursday, said the inquiries about the SIM card number of his former company revealed that it was bought by a retailer in Delhi. He added that the retailer had provided necessary documents to the company as per the rules laid down by the Department of Telecommunications for issuing a new connection.
The retailer and another witness,Gurvinder Singh Bakshi, who runs a mobile retail shop by the name India communication shop in Delhi, said that a person named Suresh Prasad had bought that SIM card in October 2008. Bakshi said Prasad had given a Reliance electricity bill and employee card of the Urban Development Department to get the SIM card. The address mentioned in the electricity bill was of Vasant Kunj in Delhi, which later turned out to be false.
The prosecution also examined Investigation Officer Vilas Wankhede who told the court that his team had visited the Delhi address given by Prasad but found it to be fake. Police are still trying to track down Prasad whose whereabouts are not yet known,he said.
According to the prosecution, the terrorists at the Taj Hotel had used the SIM card for communicating with their handlers in Pakistan.
