This piece is in two different scales,and the recording studios layered them to create a perfect resonant harmony. The song defined Mahesh Bhatt’s Arth,a semi-autobiographical film about his extramarital affair. In the film,it was addressed to Shabana Azmi,who plays the wife,and Singh’s voice,so effortlessly calming,spoke for the woman scorned.

The heartwarming ghazal has music-lovers swaying whenever they hear it. Based in Raag Yaman,this song has a very simple music structure. It is this simplicity and consecutive repetitions that ensure that the song will always tug at our heartstrings.

Hoshwalon ko khabar kya,from Sarfarosh

Singh will always be remembered for the haunting beauty of his voice,and this song,composed by Jatin Lalit for Aamir Khan-Sonali Bendre starrer Sarfarosh,is a perfect example of that. The ghazal,picturised on the shayar (poet) played by Naseeruddin Shah,was a part of another Singh compilation Parwaz .

Tumko dekha to ye khayal aaya,from Saath Saath

A ghazal from the Dipti Naval-Farooque Shaikh starrer,this one melted in the crispness of the film’s narration. A romantic number with Kuldeep Singh’s music and Javed Akhtar’s lyrics,it was brought to life by Singh’s rich timbre.
