Those who never spoke against Pak are doing so: Rajnath Singh

Rajnath Singh said that the Modi government had changed the perceptions of nations like the United States.

Even nations that did not speak out against Pakistan on the terrorism front were doing so now said  Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday during his visit to the city. He said the turnaround is largely inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomacy.

“The UAE never spoke out against Pakistan, Saudi Arabia never did. They are now telling Pakistan that terror needs to stop,” Singh said, addressing a meeting of BJP workers in Mumbai.

Singh said that the Modi government had changed the perceptions of nations like the United States.

“If anyone after Vajpayee has worked to ensure that the country is held in high esteem in the international arena, it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Singh added.India’s security challenges stemmed largely from mishandling by the previous government at the centre, he said.

“There are a lot of problems. Previous governments created a lot of problems on the security front. They turned security issues into complex problems…,” Singh added.

On the fears surrounding the Islamic State, he said: “People talk about ISIS but it is not a big problem…we will overcome it,” Singh added.

Singh added that Naxal violence had reduced by 30 per cent since the new government took charge.

He claimed that the government was effectively handling the frequent ceasefire violations from across the border.

“We will ensure that the first bullet is not fired by us. But whenever we are fired on the intensity of our reply will be magnified. This policy has made Pakistan do the rounds of the United Nations and complain. Such things would not happen during the previous government’s time,” Singh said.

He held meetings in Mumbai and Pune during the visit.
