Three cases of suicide were reported over the past 48 hours in the city.
On Monday night,55-year-old Aftab Hussain Khan hanged himself at his cousins house in Shivaji Nagar,allegedly after his second wife and son left him.
In another case,son of a daily-wage worker hanged himself on Tuesday apparently upset after his Class XII results. In the third case,a 25-year-old housewife from Tilak Nagar in Chembur committed suicide by consuming rat poison after a minor tiff with her in-laws.
According to the police,Khans first wife had left him two years ago. He had remarried but his second wife also abandoned him a week ago and took their son along. A depressed Khan had moved in with his cousin. According to sub-inspector Shivaji Awte from the Shivaji Nagar police station,Khan was a resident of Jaffar Compound near Noorani Masjid in Ghatkopar east. On Monday,when the others in the house had gone out,Khan hanged himself. The police have not found any suicide note near the body. We have sent the body for postmortem and are investigating the reason behind his death, said Awte.
A few hours later on the same day,a student of the KJ Somaiya College committed suicide at his Deonar residence. He had reportedly failed in two subjects in his Class XII exams. According to the police,Ajay Vilas Kolekar (19) hanged himself four days after his results when his father had gone to work and his mother was out with his sister.
We have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating. We have recorded the statement of Kolekars mother who said he was under depression because of his result, said sub-inspector Arjun Adangle from the Deonar police station.
Sahiya Mohim Khan,a resident of Gulshan Baug area in Chembur,had a fight with her in-laws over preparing lunch. In a fit of rage,Khan consumed rat poison. She was rushed to the Rajawadi Hospital where she died on Wednesday.
