Two were arrested by the Pydhonie police for allegedly forging arms licence documents. The accused have been identified as Nilesh Patil (19) and Sachin More (19).

The duo were arrested after a Santacruz resident approached the police saying they had given him a forged arms licence and passed it off as an original.

“Nalawade showed interest and More promised to introduce him to his friend Patil, who could purportedly help. Patil told Nalawade that he could provide an arms licence for him. Nalawade believed him and, along with three other persons from his native village, paid the duo Rs 1.15 lakh for the licence,” an officer said.

Patil gave Nalawade his licence last week and told him that all formalities were completed.

“On Tuesday,Nalawade went to an armament store on Abdul Rehman Street in Pydhonie to purchase revolvers. The shopkeeper asked him for his arms licence. Nalawade showed him the licence, the shopkeeper informed him that it was fake. Nalawade was shocked and approached the police. On the basis of his complaint,we have booked More and Patil for cheating and forgery,” the official added.

The duo were arrested on Thursday. They were produced in court on Friday, and have been remanded to police custody until Wednesday.
