Why buddies fought: theory is one turned informer,other got upset

Till they got into a brawl on Saturday,gangsters Abu Salem and Mustafa Dossa had been close friends. The police believe Dossa was upset with Salem whom he suspected was acting as a police informer.

Both are charged in the 1993 serial blasts They used to be taken in the same police van from Arthur Road jail to the court before a rift grew between them. Salem has now been shifted to Bhopal.

The Crime Branch was handed the investigation on Sunday and will record the statements of witnesses. JCP (Crime) Himanshu Roy said,We will seek Dossas custody for further investigations.

The Home Department,too,will probe the brawl. Home Minister RR Patil said the two gangsters had known each other since their days with the Dawood Ibrahim gang,and had worked together for the 1993 blasts.

They have been on friendly terms in the prison till now,so what could be the reason for the sudden fight? he said.

Jail superintendent Rajendra Dhamne has been asked to submit a report.
