Wockhardt employees booked for stealing info

While one of the city’s reputed hospital chains Wockhardt was busy expanding and introducing new business models in the country

While one of the city’s reputed hospital chains Wockhardt was busy expanding and introducing new business models in the country, two of its senior officers had allegedly sneaked out secret documents from the hospital to float their own company.

The Cyber Cell of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has filed a complaint against Vikramsingh Raghuvanshi, former centre head of the hospital chain in Mumbai, his wife Minoo, and others for allegedly “stealing” information from the company and floating another company while still serving with the hospital. Booked under several sections of the Information Technology Act,2008 and under The Indian Penal Code,Raghuvanshi was arrested on August 12 and was later released on bail.

According to the complaint filed by Mahendra Bangar,vice-president (finance),Raghuvanshi worked with the group for over a decade before resigning in 2010,only to be made a consultant to the company. The FIR claims even while Raghuvanshi was working with the hospital,he had covertly floated a company called “Oneil and Vicker” and another by the name of “Amity Hospitals Pvt. Ltd”.

According to the police, several internal e-mails and folders containing “important data” were sent from the hospital’s servers to Raghuvanshi and his wife Minoo’s personal e-mail address.

Anil Kamath, who retired as the hospital’s managing director in November 2010,has also moved the sessions court anticipating his arrest in the case. The FIR,which remains ambigious on the role of the accused, states that Raghuvanshi along with other employees regularly smuggled hospital’s business plans and in turn used it to set up their own company. In his anticipatory bail application,Kamath, who after his retirement joined Raghuvanshi, claimed he had no role to play in the case and Bangar was trying to make him a scapegoat.

According to the police,Kamath was aware of the illegal activity during Raghuvanshi’s tenure at Wockhardt. He has not been named as an accused in the case yet.

“I have no role to play. The complainant in the FIR is trying to imply I am involved in the alleged case,” Kamath claimed in his application. The application will come up for hearing later this week.
