Several parts of the city will face major water cuts from Tuesday to Sunday. The civic body has decided to impose 20 per cent water cuts in nine wards of the island city and eastern suburbs on Tuesday and Wednesday owing to pipeline repair work at Mulund.
Similarly,the work of joining the existing Vaitarna pipelines to the new Ruparel-Maroshi tunnel and Bhandup-Maroshi tunnel between Thursday 9 am and Sunday 12 pm will be undertaken,during which time all western suburbs from Bandra to Dahisar and wards A,B,C,D,E,G North and G South will face a 25 per cent water cut.
Officials said the civic body has also undertaken the connection work at Navghar Road junction on Eastern Express Highway. The repair works will start at 10 am on Tuesday and will be completed by 10 am the next day.
Water cuts have been imposed in nine wards like B,E,F/South and F/North wards in island city and M/East,M/West,N,S and T wards in eastern suburbs.
Water supply to Mandvi,Umarkhadi,Dongri,Mazgaon,Nagpada,Kamathipura,Byculla,Parel,Sewri,Naigaum,Matunga,Sion,Chembur,Govandi,Mankhurd,Deonar,Trombay,Ghatkopar,Bhandup,Vikhroli and Mulund will be affected, said an official from the civic hydraulic department.
Meanwhile,reports said shortage of drinking water in the tribal areas of Thane has claimed the life of one Parvati Ramu Jadhav,37. Vasai MLA Vivek Pandit said Jadhav had gone to fill water from a tanker when she reportedly succumbed to exhaustion.
