WR carrying capacity to go up by 1.5 lakh

The Western Railway will create additional carrying capacity for more than 1.5 lakh commuters from March 27 as 36 additional services will be added to the suburban section of Western Railway.

The Western Railway will create additional carrying capacity for more than 1.5 lakh commuters from March 27 as 36 additional services will be added to the suburban section of Western Railway (WR). While two new 15-car services will be introduced,the other 34 will be 12-car services. After the addition,the total number of daily services on WR will be 1,250 instead of 1,214 now. From March 27,there with be 14 15-car,1,040 12-car and 196 nine-car services on WR. In the last five years,there has been a 32 per cent capacity addition on WR as number of 12-car services has gone up by 14 per cent and number of 9-car services brought down to 196 as on date from 532 in 2006-07.
