Yavatmal: CM seeks report on rehab measures taken for Bembla project-affected in a month

According to the officials statistics, 3,700 farmers have committed suicide in the past few years.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed government officials to review and submit a report on the measures taken by the administration to rehabilitate those affected by the delay in completion of Bembla Irrigation Project Friday. The project, which had started 25 years ago, is now facing teething problems with expenditure running into Rs 1,857 crore.

Fadnavis, who was in Yavatmal district, the epicentre of farmer suicides in the state, also expressed his unhappiness over the inordinate delay in completion of work and listed out all the problems voiced by the villagers.

Fadnavis said: “I have asked the officials to submit a detailed report on what facilities have been provided in one month. I also interacted with the villagers to ascertain their hardships.”

“I have assured the farmers that funds will be made available for developing infrastructure in the region.” He further said that if the irrigation potential is enhanced, farmers would reap maximum benefits.
