The tanker has been seized and a medical test of the accused driver has been conductedA 1.5-year-old boy died after a water tanker allegedly being driven in reverse ran over him in Pune’s Warje, police said on Sunday. The tanker driver has been arrested.
After the police rushed to the spot, the victim Adokshak Mahesh Wavale, a resident of Ganpati Matha, was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead on Saturday evening.
The accident took place at around 7.30 pm when the driver, identified as 22-year-old Sunny Pyare Baraskar, was taking a turn in reverse after supplying water at a residential society in Ganpati Matha.
Even after local residents who spotted the boy behind the tanker urged Baraskar to stop, he allegedly continued driving in the same manner and crushed him under the wheels, senior Police Inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade said.
Warje police have booked Baraskar for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, under sections 105 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicle Act.
The tanker has been seized and a medical test of the accused driver has been conducted, Kaingade added. The police said he is a native of Bhopal and a resident of Pune’s Dattawadi.
The investigation led by Sub-Inspector Sanjay Narale is underway.
