83 railway jobs in 09-10,on compassionate grounds

Railways usually offer jobs to one family member of any employee who dies in harness. However,on compassionate ground,jobs are offered,either in category C or D of railway services,to dependents of employees who die in railway accident when off duty,who die due to health reasons in service and who become medically incapacitated or go missing.

“While offering jobs,the railway administration has to take into account the educational qualifications of the children or spouse of the deceased employee. If the dependent has passed SSC,we conduct a written test and based on the results,place the person in different sections of the railway like commercial,mechanical,engineering or electrical,” said U C Bodake,Assistant Personnel Officer of the divisional railway.

“Those less qualified than SSC are placed in category D — peons or helpers — of the railway departments,without any written test,” said Bodake.

Railway authorities usually give jobs to the kin of deceased within a month of the death. “We have set a deadline of one month so that the family does not suffer for long and we do follow this timeline as far as possible,” said an official.

Pune-Ahmedabad extra train
To clear the extra rush of passengers,the Pune Division of Central Railway will run a special train between Pune and Ahmedabad on April 18. From Ahmedabad,an extra train will run to Pune on May 3.

Train 0139 Pune-Ahmedabad special train will depart at 11 am,reach Lonavala at 12.08 pm and reach Ahmedabad at 11.45 pm. Train 0140 Ahmedabad-Pune special will run on May 3 at 2.10 pm,reaching Lonavala next day at 3.23 am and Pune at 4.45 am. These trains will have 7 second class reserved sleeper coaches,2 SLRs and a pantry car.
