Army Institute of Technology (AIT) will celebrate its 19th foundation day (AIT day) in General B C Joshi Hall,AIT on February 24. This is the conclusion ceremony of a week-long sports,cultural and technical competitions wherein around 3,000 students from all engineering colleges in the city took part.
A press release issued by AIT said,Dignitaries from Southern Command and industry will grace the occasion on foundation day function. Pramod Chaudhari,executive chairman,Praj Industries Ltd will be conferred Life Time Achievement Award and citation in grateful recognition of his contribution in the field of engineering. Various scholarships will be bestowed to meritorious and deserving students.
Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) sponsored Award of Excellence,will be given to best outgoing student of 2012 batch. Our students with the support of director Brig (retd) S K Lahiri,principal Dr V P Gosavi and joint director Col C N Girish have been active in co-coordinating the events, the release added.
Two arrested for murder
The Faraskhana police on Saturday arrested two persons allegedly involved in the murder of Yogesh Londhe,a 25-year-old criminal on police records. Police have also nabbed two other juveniles who are suspected to be involved in the crime. Londhe,a resident of Tadiwala Road,was assaulted by the suspects with sharp weapons on Thursday afternoon,when Londhe was sitting in an autorickshaw. Police have arrested Pankaj alias Arvind Gopale,21 and Aakash Sawant,19 both resident of Tadiwala Road and have booked them under IPC 302,Section 24 of Arms Act. Police produced Gopale and Sawant before a magisterial court which remanded them in police custody till March 1. Court also directed the police to produce the minors before Juvenile Justice Board.
