All primary, secondary and higher secondary schools under the Maharashtra state board will reopen simultaneously on June 15 as per a government resolution (GR). Those in Vidarbha region, under which Amravati and Nagpur regions fall, will reopen on June 26.
The GR states the government took the decision after it received complaints about schools in Mumbai region starting on June 15 and those in the Marathwada starting on June 13. The GR issued by the school education department said a similar GR was issued on May 30,2007,where all schools were asked to reopen the same day. But schools under the Marathwada and Mumbai regions failed to follow the GR.
M R Kadam, director, primary school education,Pune, said,The dates will only apply to schools under the state board since CBSE and ICSE are controlled from New Delhi. The main reason for reopening all schools the same day is to bring in uniformity. It is convenient for a lot of people, such parents who might have children in two different schools. The reopening in Vidarbha region has been delayed because of hot weather conditions there and because of water problems.
Some schools have decided to stick to the date they had finalised. Leena Choudhary, principal,Symbiosis School, said parents have been asked to send children to school on June 13. As of now,the date remains unchanged as we have not received any intimation. I dont think if we work two extra days, anyone would complain, said Choudhary.
Parents are happy with the decision. Pramod Desle, whose son is in Class II,said,My sons school was to reopen on June 13. Now,he gets two more days of rest. We have not received any information from schools on this.
