The twinkle in their eyes reflects the joy of victory and the pride in being able to showcase their talent. For these 200 children, life has not exactly been a bed of roses, but their will power has helped them win over their disability and change it into their strength. Performing live for the first time, these differently abled children are going to create a name for themselves by presenting a musical dance production, titled Ramayana On Wheels.

An initiative of the Bal Kalyan Sanstha in collaboration with Ability Unlimited Foundation,Delhi, the production will be staged on December 5 at the Bal Kalyan Sanstha at 6.30 pm and 8 pm. A celebration of World Disability Day (December 3),this dance musical will be performed on five different stages, with 18 scenes and 50 characters. Talking about the performance,Guru Syed Sallauddin Pasha, who is the conceptor, director, choreographer and designer of the the play, shares,“This is a complete therapy production to heal the children. We have incorporated music, rhythm, emotion, group dance and even movement therapy in it. This will not only bring out their hidden talent but will also help them understand their social and physical environment in a better way.”

The play will see participation of students from 16 institutes across the city, the youngest character being four years old and the oldest 25. “I strongly believe that ours is not a differently abled friendly country and more initiatives for their betterment need to be taken,” adds Pasha, who has created 100 dance theatre productions and has had 10,000 performances by multiple challenged people across the globe. His name has also been featured in the Limca Book of World Records for the same. Pasha, who is the Founder and Artistic Director of Ability Unlimited, also feels that this play will usher hope, confidence, dignity and zest in the differently abled children.

The theme of Ramayana is rather unique. Minitta Patil, manager,Bal Kalyan Sanstha, shares,“Ramayana has so many emotions that it almost feels like an emotional revival for most. Also,it has been a celebrated epic of India and it only makes sense to have it featured in such a noble cause.”

Talking about the challenges that a project like this entailed,Pasha says,“It has been challenging but the amount of efforts that the students have put in is commendable. Their performances will be extraordinary.”
