From the academic session 2012,there will be no Common Entrance Test (CET) for admissions to undergraduate (UG) courses in Management and Computer Applications run by the University of Pune (UoP). The varsity took the decision keeping in mind the fact that over 40 per cent of the seats in these courses remain vacant every year.
The courses will include UG courses like Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA),Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) and Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) – all run by the commerce faculty of UoP. A CET was being conducted by UoP for these courses for the last two years. Now,students can seek admissions to these courses on the basis of marks scored by them in Class XII.
our experience in the last two years show that getting enough number of students is a challenge for us as the number of seats
far exceed the total applications we receive.”
Sudhakar Jadhavar,dean,commerce faculty,said,”The colleges and institutions are free to carry out their own admission process from now on as the number of seats is far more than the number of colleges.”
Including all these three faculties,there are 17,000 seats and over 40 per cent of them remain vacant every year. The decision was announced in a notification issued by the BCUD.
The notification says that students can go the varsity website at unipune.ac.in and look at the admission details of each of the colleges and institutions affiliated
to UoP.
