BJP bastion confident to retain the seats

This panel is formed by the merger of four BJP-dominated electoral wards.

PMC is going to polls early next year. Newsline brings to its readers an overview of the situation with special focus on four panels every week to enable voters to make an informed choice

This panel is formed by the merger of four BJP-dominated electoral wards viz. 69 (Vishrambaug Wada) with Shubhada Joshi as corporator,70 (Mahatma Phule Mandai) represented by Madhuri Misal,82 (Subhash Nagar) with Ashok Yenpure as corporator and 80 (Renuka Swaroop school) with Ujjwala Pawatekar as corporator -all from the BJP. The area has been dominated by the saffron parties for more than a decade and the existing representatives hopes to continue with it. The seats in this panel are reserved for other backward class (women) and general. Even as the BJP would dominate the panel, there would a tough fight between the women and male candidates in the party. While Yenpure can contest from this panel for the general seat,Pawatekar can contest for the OBC (women) reserved seat. Joshi, who has served two terms as a corporator,is clearly out of the fight. She said,“My husband Uday Joshi, who has been a corporator from 1997 to 2002 will contest for the general seat. I would not be contesting from this panel.” The corporators claim that the work of laying underground cables, drainage lines for old wadas has been completed. However, residents of this area complain of increasing encroachments and traffic problems in his area.
