‘Check pollution’

Residents have been complaining of pollution from industries affecting their health and 450 residents of Palm Groves Cooperative Housing Society Ltd had urged the local unit of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to direct industries to keep it in check.

Residents have been complaining of pollution from industries affecting their health and 450 residents of Palm Groves Cooperative Housing Society Ltd had urged the local unit of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to direct industries to keep it in check.

“Industries discharge thick smoke and heavy sound of impact on metals is audible round the clock,” said Chandrasen Borhade of Ranjani.

He said residents have been complaining of respiratory problems. “Prolonged exposure to such levels of pollution may cause serious health hazards,” Borhande said. The MPCB had visited the area and registered the pollution level,he said adding they orally conveyed the levels were alarming and assured action. “We dont want to close down industries but want the board to compel units to comply with set norms…,” Borhade said,threateing a stir if nothing was done.

Board official N H Shivangi said that the board has initiated action as per the complaint. He refused to reveal the kind of action saying any query in written form will only be replied instead of the oral communication.
