Sonali Kulkarni loves her street food the most

Sonali Kulkarni of Natrang fame typically starts her day late. “I wake up so late that I hardly have time for breakfast,” she says. However, she does not endorse this habit. “I generally have a glass of milk, biscuits, cornflakes and maybe a fruit, but ideally one should have a proper breakfast with parathas or something equally filling.”

She is currently following a strict diet regime, and she generally sticks to it. Thus, she doesn’t have dinner; instead,at 7.30,she has a few boiled vegetables, salads and a little light munching food. “I have dinner only when I have late night shoots. On such days,I avoid rice as it makes one drowsy, and have lots of liquids.”

Sonali is also a self-confessed chaat freak. “I love street food, especially chaat, and my favourite destination for this is at Manmeet on FC Road.” Another favourite place for her to eat is Vaishali, also on FC Road, which is,according to her,“…the best place for South Indian food.”

Sonali is a convert as far as Punjabi food is concerned, but she laments the fact that very few places in the city serve the authentic cuisine. “Dishes like rajma chawal and sarso da saag just don’t taste the same in Pune’s restaurants.” However, she swears by one establishment,Tony da Dhabba near Talegaon. “If you want pure Punj food, that’s where you should head,” she advises.

Sonali generally has salads, fruits, sprouts, rotis and sabzi on an everyday basis. However she tries to have something to eat every two hours. “This routine becomes difficult at times, especially during shootings, but I try to incorporate it,” she says. What she likes is anything home-made – paneer, green leafy vegetables, especially spinach and fulkas.
