Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil Sunday intensified his attacks on BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis (Express File)THE BROTHER-in-law of Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil and eight others have been externed from Jalna, Beed, Parbhani and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar districts as part of action against the sand mafia and criminal activities, police officials said on Sunday. An angry Jarange Patil criticised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and called it a conspiracy by him so that he keeps his mouth shut.
The decision to extern Jarange’s brother-in-law Vikas Khedkar and eight others was taken by the sub divisional magistrate of Ambad in Jalna, the police said.
“Others who have been externed include Keshav Madhav Vaibhat, Sanyog Madhukar Solunke, Gajanan Ganpat Solunke, Amol Keshav Pandit, Gorakh Babanrao Kurankar, Sandeep Sukhdev Lohkare, Ramdas Masurao Taur and Vaman Masurao Taur,” the official informed.
Cases have been registered since 2019 against these persons at Ambad, Ghansawangi and Gondi police stations in Jalna for sand theft and arson during the Antarwali Sarati agitation and obstruction of government work among others, he added.
A senior official in Jalna said, “The externment orders have been issued against nine history sheeters involved in illegal sand mining from Godavari river. These notorious criminals have been part of the sand mafia for the last several years and have been booked multiple times in the past…”
Responding to the police action, Jarange Patil said, “The police have deliberately put my relative’s name on their list of those externed. This is 100 per cent a conspiracy of Devendra Fadnavis. He has done this so that I keep my mouth shut.”
The activist said Fadnavis betrayed the Maratha community. “Fadnavis had promised to withdraw cases against youths of the Maratha community, but now he is filing false cases against our youths. If he is doing this by sweet-talking, then Maratha youths will not allow him to move around in Maharashtra.”
