Honour for Dehu Rd Ordnance Factory
The Ordnance Factory,Dehu Road (OF-Dehu) has been declared the best performing factory for the year 2009-10 by the Defence Ministry. The announcement was made on Friday in New Delhi. Every year,the award is given to an Ordnance Factory displaying best practices amongst the factories under Ordnance Factory Board (OFB). Though the final date of the award ceremony has yet not been declared,it will be given to the GM,OF Dehu Road by the Defence Minister. OF-Dehu has bagged the award for the third consecutive year,said a press release.
Sangam for ex-servicemen
The Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) has launched a software project titled- Sangam for defence pensioners. Project Sangam is a software which will facilitate issuance of corrigendum pension payment orders. This is expected to address the demand from the ex-servicemen for issue of individual corrigendum pension payment order consequent to implementation of recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission (CPC). This software project is one step forward from the project Suvigya,which was launched in October last year. The pension payment orders to be issued using Sangam software will be a special corrigendum pension payment system that will contain all the basic details of original pension payment order. It will also have details of family pension,disability pension and any other type of pension available to a pensioner,stated a press note.
Tribute to Kargil martyrs organised
Trishakti Foundation,an organisation working towards the welfare of the Armed Forces personnel in association with AISSMS celebrated the Kargil Vijay Diwas with great enthusiasm. The event held at the AISSMS hall was attended by Lt Gen (retd) D B Shekatkar,Colonel (retd) Sambhaji Patil,president of Trishakti Foundation,Brig (retd) H H Mahajan,Colonel (retd) Gautam Khot and former cricketer Chandu Borde,among others. A two- minute silence was observed as a tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil conflict. This was followed by a lecture on Kargil Diwas by Shekatkar and Mahajan,along with the screening of a short film on Kargil. A CD on Vijay Diwas,an annual programme,was unveiled on the occasion.
Lecture on middle east uprising held
A lecture on the uprising in the middle east was organised by city-based Centre for Advanced Strategic Studies (CASS) on Friday. Lt Gen (retd) Amitav Mukherjee,former director general,Air Defence Artillery,and CASS governing council member made a presentation on ‘Upsurge of Democracy in Middle East: Implications.’ The lecture was held at DES Technical Institute hall beside Fergusson College on Friday.
