The strategy adopted for implementation of the rule by authorities will be of appreciation and caution. Amongst the most unique feature likely to come up is a board, most likely near War Memorial, which will provide the daily death toll due to not wearing helmets. Work is on to collect the data. While hoardings to create awareness about helmets are likely to come up in the next week, equally prominently placed would be the photographs of people who have died due to head injuries or suffered severe injuries because of not wearing helmets.
Ajay Aggarwal of city- based organisation Margdarshak told The Indian Express,”It will be a digital signage. We have already spoken to the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) regarding hardware and source of information. We have a meeting with CII on September 6 regarding the same. We have decided to go ahead with placing the board.”
An LMA official responsible for implementing the entire drive said,”Such meters have been placed at places like Delhi-Chandigarh highway. It is to make people aware of the repercussions of not wearing helmet. The source of data will be the local police. Besides we will also be displaying photographs which can make people aware of what can happen because of not wearing helmets.” Aggarwal said besides the digital signage, five to 10 such boards will be placed at various locations.
The organisation has also printed 20,000 warning cards which the NCC cadets will hand over to commuters. “We will use both positive as well as negative ticketing to create awareness. We have been pressing all bikers to wear helmets and this is a great opportunity to begin,” said Aggarwal.
