Encroachments on footpath : PMC takes action at 15 places

Additional chief secretary (urban development department) TC Benjamin said he would soon review the drive. “The commissioner has asked for a month’s extension. However,it would be reviewed,’’he said.

The PMC had on Wednesday admitted that “all was not well with the footpaths in the city and it would take a long time to make them useable for pedestrians.”

The PMC has asked all their ward officers to take action against all the encroachments and take photographs of conditions of the footpath sbefore and after. PMC commissioner in a press meet had declared that after the assessment of the 591 km footpaths in the city,around 26 km stretch was found to be in bad shape of which 12 km was repaired.

Property tax offices open on May 12-13

The PMC’s property tax department will keep its offices open on Saturday and Sunday to enable citizens to pay their property dues on time. The administration has announced a rebate of upto 5-10 per cent if the citizens pay their dues before May 31.

Citizens fined for wasting water

With the city facing shortage of water,the civic body has sent out teams to take action against those wasting drinking water. The teams took action in Warje and Karvenagar areas and are spreading out to other areas as well. Action has been taken against violators at 13 places in the city. A fine of Rs 1,300 has been collected so far.

20 fined Rs 2,000 each for spitting

Civic body’s Ghole road office slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 each on 20 people,who were caught spitting at various places in the city by health officers. The action was initiated against those spitting gutkha and tobacco. The order was issued by Dr Akhade of PMC’s Ghole road office.
