PMC decides to remove roadside trash bins

The explosion in a garbage bin outside McDonald’s has raised concern in the civic corridors. The Pune Municipal Corporation is now removing the trash bins it had placed lest they be misused by miscreants. “The first thing we did soon after reports of explosion was to lift the garbage bins in and around the area so that there is no panic in the area,” said additional municipal commissioner Naresh Zurmure.

The issue was also raised in the meeting called on security measures. “There was no garbage bin placed by the civic body on J M Road. However, some exist off the road. Now,we will have to plan their removal as well,” said Suresh Jagtap, joint municipal commissioner. The chances of garbage bins being misused are higher at crowded places,he said. “There should be no garbage bins at markets or crowded places. The civic administration will work with the police and remove the bins that the police deem as a security threat.”
