Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Asheesh Sharma has said the floodline map controversy that erupted last month has more or less been resolved after the irrigation department conveyed the genuiness of one of the maps to the civic body.
According to the irrigation department,of the two maps reportedly in circulation, the first map is the correct one, said Sharma.
The controversy had erupted after Shiv Sena corporator Seema Savle and her husband Sarang Kamtekar,a Sena leader, bought copies of maps worth Rs 17,000 and came across two maps for one floodline of Pavana dam. Savle and Kamtekar alleged that the two maps were deliberately put in circulation for the benefit of certain top-level politicians and builders.
Following the controversy,District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar directed the irrigation department officials to find out within 10 days why the maps were circulated. He had also threatened action against the officials responsible.
Although it is not clear who was responsible for the gaffe,Sharma said, the onus of taking action rested with the irrigation department. The PCMC is in no way responsible for the circulation of two different maps. These maps were made available to us by the irrigation department and it is for them to act against the guilty, he said.
However,Kamtekar said, the civic body should take action against its own officials as well. Who is Mr Sharma trying to fool? Two maps cannot be in circulation without the active connivance of civic officials. If the truth does not come out,we would move the high court seeking action against the PCMC and its officials. Kamtekar said a big scam had been brewing in the PCMC and the existence of two maps reflected this.
