Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Rakesh Wanavadi sentenced one Chandrakant Nagnath Waghmare (26) and his brothers Tukaram (23),Dnyaneshwar (20) and Santosh (19),all residents of Barate Chawl in Warje,to two years rigorous imprisonment for beating and seriously injuring one Vijaykumar Rambrij Yadav (30),over a petty issue.

The four were arrested on March 1,2005 on the basis of a complaint filed by Yadav,also a resident of Barate Chawl.

According to the complaint,Yadav’s wife and Chandrakant’s mother had a quarrel over filling water from the tap in their locality on March 1,2005. After the incident,the Waghmare brothers locked up Yadav’s wife in her house.

Yadav had complained about it to his landlord. When the landlord intervened in the issue,the enraged Waghmare brothers hit Yadav with rods and sharp weapons when he was passing by NDA road in the evening. Yadav was seriously injured in the incident.

A total of six witnesses were examined by the prosecution. The Waghmare brothers were sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 500 fine or six month additional imprisonment.
