The Tiger Trail restaurant at Royal Orchid Central offers great food in a distinctive outdoor ambience

Head here if you are tired of trying out sedate dishes cooked the traditional way and are looking for some adventure. Aptly named Tiger Trail, the new restaurant at the Royal Orchid Central (ROC) in Kalyani Nagar offers more than just good food. It also has a great outdoor seating area, which is done up to resemble a jungle and gives you a unique feeling of being at home in its one-of-its-kind ambience.

“We have an open kitchen right here

and the idea is to give guests a first-hand experience of what goes on behind the counter,” informs Rajat Singh Rawat, food and beverage manager,ROC. “Guests are welcome to take a look at the quality of ingredients and the style of cooking we employ here,” he adds.

With the seating and décor minimalist yet elegant, the idea behind the décor theme is to provide a relaxing, authentic feel to diners, says Rawat. “We also have plans to start growing most of the basic ingredients like coriander, basil and lettuce right here,so that freshness is maintained at all times,” he adds.

Chef Pravin Sinha recommends trying out the inimitable Yakhni Shorba,Tandoori Pomfret and Pyaaz Ki Kheer. “In addition,at an all-inclusive price of Rs.499,we offer three welcome drinks,non-vegetarian and veg appetizers, choice of soups and salad and of course, the main course and desserts,” says Sinha. “The emphasis here is on providing best quality food at reasonable pricing to the globally-exposed palate of a typical Pune resident,” he adds.

While the choice of welcome drinks includes sweet lassi, masaledar chaas, aam ka panna and seasonal juices, the appetizers are definitely worth a try, with an array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes to choose from.

The main course at The Tiger Trail is sumptuous, with some rich preparations made well, and through a balanced use of oil and spices. Especially worth a try is the Paneer Makhani (Rs 195),Corbett se Aloo (Rs 165) and Mazedar Bhutte (Rs 165). Among breads/ rotis, the Tiger Nan (Rs 95) is a good bet and so is the Mughlai Paratha (Rs 60). For desserts, the Jaffarani Phirni (Rs 120) and the Pyaaz Ki Kheer (Rs 120) is again something you don’t get to sample every day, especially the latter.

In all,the restaurant is an ideal place to spend a leisurely late summer evening and enjoy the advent of monsoon in the tasteful ambience. With the managers planning to cover the outdoor seating for the duration of the rains, this is one foodie destination which is sure to see a lot of gourmand traffic in the coming days.
