With no breakthrough in sight in resolving the agitation by residents of Uruli Devachi and Phursungi,it appears that the problem of overflowing garbage bins is here to stay.
We are urging the villagers to withdraw the protest, but there is no breakthrough, said municipal commissioner Mahesh Pathak. He added that the villagers have been blocking the garbage vehicles from depositing waste at the processing plant.
The demands of the villagers include returning the land for the waste disposal to them, starting the capping of garbage with immediate effect and providing employment to the villagers rendered landless by the project,Pathak said. The PMC has given in writing that capping would start within the next six months and efforts would be taken to provide employment to landless villagers, he added.
The land cant be returned as the matter is pending in court,he said.
