Punes most prominent businessmen are the privileged few to attend the Business and Entrepreneurship Summit organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on November 6 in Mumbai, where US President Obama will deliver a keynote address.
Though names of Bajaj Auto chairman Rahul Bajaj and Kinetic Motors chairman Arun Firodia are confirmed,Sandhya Satwadi, western region director of CII,said invitations for the event have been extended only to a few select CEOs from Pune and they are still in the process of receiving confirmations and collating data.
I will attend the CII conference at the Trident on November 6. The US president will come for 45 minutes at the day-long conference where he will address the delegates, said Bajaj Auto chairman. He said later he will head to New Delhi for the parliamentary session that the President will address on November 8.
Arun Firodia said the event and presence of the US President is sure to give a fillip to Indo-US business ties. America is certainly looking at India to develop it as a viable alternative to China if ever the need arises. Everyone needs to develop two sources of supplies and for the US,India is fast catching up with China in that respect, said Firodia. Asked if outsourcing is on the agenda of the meet,Firodia said it will probably be a topic that everyone will be advised to avoid.
We cannot reveal the names of the people to whom the invites have gone but they are amongst the most prominent industrialists in the city, said Satwadi.
While chairman and managing director of Bharat Forge Baba Kalyani is certainly on the list,a company spokesperson said his attending the event is not confirmed. Though he has registered for the meet,he will be out of the country at that time and hence it is unlikely that he will be able to make it, said the spokesperson.
The exact time when Obama will attend the summit has not been disclosed to any of the delegates for security concerns.
